Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our portfolio of legacy vacuum valve products, as well as playing a key liaison role between our R&D and Manufacturing Engineering teams to facilitate the successful introduction of new vacuum valve products. Your expertise in vacuum technology, mechanical engineering, and product lifecycle management will be essential in ensuring the continued performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction of our established vacuum valve lines, while also supporting the seamless transition of new products from the R&D phase to manufacturing.

Location and reporting

Position is located in-person at Pfeiffer Vacuum Vietnam and reports to the vacuum valve engineering manager at Pfeiffer Valves and Engineering in the US.

Responsibilities

Sustaining Engineering – 60%

  • Maintain and support legacy vacuum valve products, troubleshooting problems, implementing CIP features and optimizing product performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development (R&D), product management, and production to understand customer requirements and develop customized vacuum valve solutions.
  • Modify existing vacuum valve product dimensions and features to meet evolving customer demands and market trends.
  • Conduct thorough testing and quality assurance to ensure the stability and reliability of customized vacuum valve solutions.

New Product Introduction - 20%

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the R&D and Manufacturing Engineering teams to facilitate the smooth transition of new vacuum valve products from design to high volume production.
  • Participate in the review of product designs, prototypes, and test results to identify and address potential manufacturing and serviceability challenges.
  • Collaborate with the Manufacturing Engineering team to develop and optimize production processes, tooling, testing and quality control measures for new vacuum valve products.
  • Analyze field performance data and customer feedback to inform future product improvements and new development efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field
  • 3-5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on vacuum technology and product lifecycle management
  • Strong proficiency in computer-aided design software. Solidworks CAD preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP system for managing product lifecycle.
  • Knowledgeable in ECO and change control management principles and practices
  • Familiarity with vacuum system components, including valves, pumps, and instrumentation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Strong communication and documentation skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with legacy vacuum valve product lines and familiarity with common failure modes and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Knowledge of vacuum system design, including fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and materials compatibility
  • Knowledge of programming languages and scripting tools for automation and data analysis
  • Understanding of product lifecycle management and change control processes
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems
  • Proven track record of successful new product introductions and collaborations between R&D and Manufacturing Engineering
